David Phillips, the UK’s largest company dedicated to providing furnishing solutions for property professionals across the private, student and housing sectors, has today invested in the English trade of Scottish company, The Furnishing Service Limited. The newly separated English business will henceforth be known as The Furnishing Service England, while the remaining Scottish business will retain the original name.
Founded in Scotland in 1995, The Furnishing Service has grown in reputation and size to become the UK’s largest specialist provider of furniture and appliances to local authorities and housing associations.
The Furnishing Service has earned a reputation for customer service that’s often described as second to none, carrying out more than 21,000 deliveries a year. The team is rightly proud of the contribution that the business makes towards achieving social inclusion - helping public sector providers cost-effectively furnish properties for those who are often most in need of support.
David Phillips’ merger with The Furnishing Service England (which comprises people, assets and operations) will further enhance the award-winning service for which it’s become known, as well as providing the necessary infrastructure and resources to service a larger number of customers – operating from the combined Group’s service and distribution centres in Manchester, London and Newcastle and a new centre in Birmingham that will open in August 2015.
“The bringing together of two award-winning businesses is an exciting step in both companies’ history.” commented David Phillips’ CEO Nicholas Gill. “For David Phillips, the merger marks a further step in our ambition to provide genuine nationwide coverage, with the addition of depots in Newcastle and, later this summer, Birmingham. The opportunity to infuse a greater degree of social inclusion – in which The Furnishing Service is an acknowledged leader - into what we do is exciting, while for The Furnishing Service England it provides the infrastructure and resources necessary to expand operations throughout England and Wales to enable a hardworking team to service and support more customers.”
